AIA
Educational Seminars for Architects and Designers
Architects & Designers can be kept abreast of the latest storage & filing design and space planning developments with one of our CES/AIA Educational Luncheon Programs. Our CES Educational Luncheons cover green building design issues, LEED, and sustainability trends in space planning and design of efficient green building facilities. Our educational seminars are suitable for Architects, Interior Designers, Facilities Managers and Records Management Professionals involved in the planning, design, or implementation of corporate, manufacturing, healthcare, governmental and commercial facilities.
Stay up to date with the latest designs in storage and filing technology by letting us present one of our many registered AIA/CES educational luncheons. Programs are typically held during the lunch hour, and lunch is provided by SpacesaverInfolinx. Each luncheon program is approximately one-hour in length and is worth 1 AIA/CES learning credit. The luncheon programs fall under Health and Safety Welfare credit which is one of the most difficult credits to obtain.
(certified for AIA & IIDA continuing education credit)
Program Description: How important is storage in the workplace? A recent study by the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) stated that, after temperature control, the most common complaint in the office environment is "not enough storage." There are several advantages to addressing storage in the programming or schematic design phases: various space solutions and the cost of different methods can be evaluated, trade-offs decided, and the most appropriate system specified. This AIA & IIDA/CES-registered program, delivered by an expert in the field, will list the steps to sound storage planning; describe a variety of materials and storage methods; illustrate the high density mobile storage concept; compare the costs and capabilities of various storage methods; and identify a range of mobile storage applications. ADA compliance, security, seismic and fire considerations, floor loading implications, dust and moisture protection, and safety will be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
- How to evaluate storage options.
- What steps to take to assure sound storage planning.
- How to make informed choices for more functional, user friendly and cost-efficient workplace design.
Program Format/Length:
Sixty-minute PowerPoint Slide presentation including Question & Answer period.
Point-of-Need Storage for Acute Care Environments
(certified for AIA continuing education credit)
Program Description: Storage location and configuration, if correctly designed, can influence staff functions, staff efficiency, staff productivity, and ultimately… patient care. In addition, careful planning can produce marked improvements in inventory control--a prime importance in healthcare facilities today. Learn how to bring storage closer to the point-of-care, closer to the patient… healthcare’s point-of-need.
There are approximately 6,200 acute care hospitals in the United States, many of which are aging facilities that are in vast need of renovation. 78 Million Baby Boomers beginning to retire with increased life expectancies will push the healthcare industry to change the way in which we receive healthcare. The advent of ever-changing technology like 4-D ultrasounds and home remote monitoring systems are great examples. And how will Evidence-based Medicine drive room design. Also learn how consolidations in healthcare will affect profitability and the use of shared services.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify major storage concerns within specific areas of the Acute Healthcare market
- Discuss trends that healthcare providers are currently facing and how storage can play a part
- Identify storage options that maximize efficiency, floor space, reduce constructions costs and allow healthcare professionals to spend more time caring for their patients
- Identify the elements to consider when planning storage spaces in order to meet customer and regulatory requirements
Program Format/Length:
Sixty-minute PowerPoint Slide presentation including Question & Answer period.
The Role Of Compact Storage In Green Building Design
(certified for AIA continuing education credit)
Program Description: The focus of this AIA-registered presentation is the role of compact storage in green building design, and how compact storage can help contribute to green building goals and possible points towards LEED Certification. Compact storage (also known as high-density mobile storage) reduces space needs, which in turn can minimize a building's total volume and reduce construction costs, as well as saving energy and reducing operating costs over the life of the building.
Learning Objectives:
- Define common “green” terms
- Understand motives for green buildings
- Describe role of the U.S. Green Building Council & LEED
- List ways you & compact storage can support green building goals and possibly contribute to LEED credits
- Things to look for in a compact storage equipment supplier
Program Format:
Sixty minutes: fifty-minute PowerPoint Slide presentation plus a ten-minute Question & Answer period.
Ready and Secure Storage for Military
(certified for AIA continuing education credit)
We all have a role to play in our Nation’s security.
Facility and Logistic Planners will provide the architects and designers with the requirements and needs of the units going into those facilities. They will set the direction for what the needs are. Architects and Designers will plan efficient buildings to support the functions of the units. They will plan for productive flow of space and consider green initiatives and environmental impacts. General Contractors will be entrusted to build the buildings in the budget allowed. Equipment specialists will be tasked with providing the right equipment for the application at a fair cost and under contracts that make it easy for the Government to procure.
To accomplish the tasks before us, it is imperative that industry and designers, in tune with the government , drive new innovations that streamline functions, provide for changing and flexible missions, and provide overall cost savings to maximize future budgets.
Storage equipment and layouts play an important role in our Military’s ability to be Ready and Secure.
This presentation will focus on what Productive Storage means, illustrate various storage options and then drill into the applications where they can be used.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the roles of Contractors and Architects in the effort to support our troops
- Define “Ready & Secure” Storage and how it relates to the Military
- Identify current trends in the Military
- Identify storage applications and options inside a Military base
Program Format/Length:
Sixty-minute PowerPoint Slide presentation including Question & Answer period.
Optimizing Storage: From evidence to Incarceration
(certified for AIA continuing education credit)
Program Description: Optimizing Storage: From evidence to Incarceration will identify major storage concerns within specific areas of the Justice Market, including Law Enforcement, Crime Labs, Courthouses and Correctional Facilities. While identifying major storage concerns (especially evidence), this presentation will also identify storage solutions for those concerns that maximize efficiency, save floor space, reduce construction costs and keep criminals behind bars. Finally, the presentation will touch upon other major planning considerations, such as floor loading, fire codes and safety requirements.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify major storage concerns within specific areas of the Justice market • Law Enforcement • Crime Labs • Courthouses • Correctional Facilities
- Identify storage options that maximize efficiency, floor space and reduce constructions costs 3. Identify the elements to consider when planning storage spaces in order to meet customer and regulatory requirement
